* Where we are – Please read this before booking a viewing or coming to see us*

We live up a long track which is also a rambla (dry stream) that does carry water occasionally after heavy rain. This is both the value and the price of separation from having close neighbours. Our houses are located in the head of the valley 2km from the main road. (We drove many longer and far worse tracks on our house searching!) The track is gently sloping and usable by an average car, 4×4, pickup, lorry and even a motorhome. It is a typical Spanish working agricultural track for access to the olives and almonds in the valley but is not a dirt road. So it takes 6-7 minutes to go from bottom to top. We are only 15 minutes drive from Uleila del Campo, so we don’t consider ourselves isolated or remote, but everyone’s idea of access and remoteness is different. This is not a place for anyone who’s looking to nip to the shop or bar in a couple of minutes. It’s for people who value seclusion and privacy (and a good degree of quiet) over easy convenience.

Robin did an excellent speeded up video of the track from the bottom where it meets the main road. You can see this here on You Tube https://youtu.be/rXxoJyFE9RE?si=cYit4b6HYF4aDzlT

Administratively we are in Benizalon district which is a tiny council and easy to deal with. Benizalon is about 300-400 people and has a hotel and a village bar, but no shop ( it gets mobile services like a bread van, meat van, fruit and veg van as is typical of many rural villages). However it’s easier for us to get to Uleila, which has a lot more services. The highest point in the area, the Hermitage (Ermita de la Virgen de la Cabeza) is to our east and visible from the houses.

We prefer not to put a location pin here but we’ll be happy to send it on request.

When you come here

If you’re viewing Casa Mary, please come to Casa Roja first and knock on the door if there’s nobody around or the Furry Welcoming Committee isn’t out to greet you. If you’re not keen on dogs don’t worry – they do love having visitors but we can arrange for them to be shuffled about so they don’t bother you. If you’re allergic to dogs do let us know and we’ll do our utmost to make sure the houses are as clean as a spotlessly clean thing on spotless day. (They’re always clean but we appreciate the extra difficulties you might face).

Where other things are!

I’m putting in here some other locations with amenities and services with generous timings for driving to allow for different driving styles and the occasional delay

  • Uleila del Campo – 15 minutes. For day to day shops and services (bank, insurance, food shop, tabac, bakery, butcher, cafes, stationery, hairdresser, hardware store, car mechanics)
  • Tabernas – 30 minutes. Tabernas is a small Spanish working town with a wider range of shops, services and small supermarkets (Dia, Consum, Coviran, Spar)
  • Sorbas – 40 minutes. Sorbas is bigger than Uleila and we use it for the Vet (Consulta Veterinaria Sorbas)
  • Almeria city – 1 hour. Access to the larger out of town shopping areas, IKEA and hospital sites is fast and easy via Tabernas and the A92.
  • Mojacar – 1 hr to the Parque Commercial roundabout and beach. 1hr 15 to the bottom of the Playa (west side)
  • Albox – 1hr 10 via the lovely hill road past Lubrin and down to Zurgena
  • Huercal Overa – 1 hr 10 via the Lubrin road or Sorbas and the motorway

Airports

  • Almeria City 1 hour
  • Alicante 3 hours
  • Malaga 3 hours
